The Distributed CORBA e-Business Information System is an online shopping system with a web site, an administration server and two inventory servers. This is a five-tier Client/Server system. There will be 2 stores located in Hong Kong Island and Kowloon/New Territories. An additional database server stores the customer and product information. Its major function is to handle all requests from customers or other servers. There will be 3 servers running in the same LAN (excluding the database server). Distributed relational database is adopted. There is one standalone database (SQL Server) for each server.

When customer logs on to the online shopping system, we will distinguish them by the district he/she is living and will direct all transactions to the destined server according to where the customer lives. Customers can then shop in our virtual store. Once they check out, sales receipts will be generated and send to their e-mail accounts. The inventory level of the local store will be checked and replenishment will come from another store if there isn't enough stock in the local store.
