Student Employment Management Information System

Mr. Leung Ho Ki, Harris

The Student Employment Management Information System (SEMIS) is a web-based application for storing students' resume and providing basic job matching functions. Students can post their resumes on the web and search for jobs. Company can post their vacancies and search for potential candidates. A special Job Agent function is designed to aid the students by automatically searching the job database daily and sending email to the students when there are new jobs that match the students' preference.

When the companies have found the right candidates, they can manage the recruitment status online using the system's Job Status Tracking function. Companies can track a prospective employee from the moment the resume was submitted through the interview process and finally to the decision to hire or reject. When a student applies for a particular job, it will be added to the company's candidate list. Any updates to the application status will be e-mailed to the student. The student can also trace the job application status using the system.

This system integrates with Microsoft Exchange Server and Outlook 2000. If students need advice from our career counsellors or departmental staff, they can arrange a meeting with them on the web, the appointment will be sent to the staff's Microsoft Outlook. In addition, career counsellors can use Microsoft Outlook to check for appointments with students, access to the database and help students to find jobs.
