Traditional Chinese Medication Clinic Management System

Mr. Tsui Wing Hong

This project is to develop a Chinese network based computer system to computerize some of the daily jobs of a Traditional Chinese Medical Clinic (TCMC), about 10 internal users.

To computerize the TCMC, human factor is the most important issue. The culture of the TCM is quite conservative and almost of the operations in clinic is still following traditional manual methods. As a result, there is a difficulty to make the doctors and staffs adapt to the computer system instead of their tradition.

At this stage, this project is not to raise a revolution on TCMC that changes peoples' traditions, but to convert almost of the manual operations into computerized ones only. The methods, terminology and steps of the TCMC will be preserved as possible, so that people can enjoy the automatic, accurate and effective computer system with minimum learning.

To achieve the above requirements, the system is required by the clinic to run in a LAN environment (may be Web based) with client/server architecture:

  • The front end is run on P5 233 with Windows 95
  • The backend is run on P5 433 or higher with Windows NT
  • Back end RDBMS is MS Access

The basic objectives of the Chinese management system are:

  • Computerize the management of the clinic.
  • Record and systemize the information of patients (including Case History) so that better treatment can be provided.
  • To store the information of herbs, standard forms
  • Help to generate standard forms.

The system would be in a web-based Three-Tier client/server architecture:

  • The backend include the database server and web server. Database server operates the "data access logic". The RDBMS (MS Access) store and process all data of the clinic and patients.
  • The web server manages the operation of the LAN. It handles and distributes the requests of clients. It also connect DBMS by ADO via ODBC as a middleware. IIS 4.0 will be used to connect front end and the web server so that ASP can be run to provide and environment for the script of the web server.
  • The front end includes computer of doctors, staffs and remote access users (if any). Users access the system by using web browser (only IE 4.0 or higher).

Functions of the system:

1. Login pages for staffs.

2. Registration of patient

3. Registration of new patient:

4. diagnosis:
