Dr Lim Kai, Associate Professor
Department of Information Systems

Dr Lim adopts a strategy of partnership with students. ¡§That gives students a role to play and empowers them to learn more,¡¨ he says.

Dr Lim's ways of empowering students includes making lectures interactive, interesting, and insightful, belying how well structured and prepared they really are. Students say Dr Lim has a knack for explaining complicated theories and technology information in layman's term. His warm and encouraging smile words wonders on students, too, making a hard subject much less stressful.

That, of course, doesn't mean that Dr Lim is easy-going when it comes to coursework and case studies. He maintains stringent standards on assignments and classroom discussions. He maintains transparency on grades and performance rating, so that students know how they are doing and they feel motivated to do their best.

In his few years at CityU, Dr Lim has helped re-design existing course in his department, and developed some new courses for the CityU-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint MBA programme, not to mention serving as external assessor for the Open University on its information and e-commerce strategy course. His imprint can be found in the curriculum not only of CityU, but of other local tertiary institutions as well.

Before joining CityU, Dr Lim was a faculty member of the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University, and the College of Business, University of Hawaii. In both institutions, he was known for his outstanding teaching, particularly at the University of Hawaii, where he won the College of Business Administration Teaching Excellence Award in 1998.
